Ghanaian politician and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant Ken Agyapong has called on the Church to play a more active role in guiding the country’s leadership, urging collaboration between religious leaders and politicians to foster national development.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Eternal Life Church in Accra on Sunday (2 November), Agyapong, who is seeking to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections, said the Church’s influence could help restore public trust in political leadership.
“The situation we are in now requires that the Church should be bold to come out and take directions on who should be the leader of this country,” he stated.
He noted that politicians have repeatedly broken public trust, while religious leaders hold sway over citizens’ beliefs.
“We politicians have lied to the citizens of this country so many times that they have lost trust in us. But when men of God speak to them, they believe. That is why the Church must do more to help this country.”
Agyapong emphasised the need for partnership between politicians and the Church to drive industrialisation and development.
“The politicians and the Church should collaborate as partners for the development of this country,” he said. “I encourage the Church to work with politicians to help build this country through industrialisation.”
He reiterated that the influence of religious leaders could be leveraged to achieve lasting progress in Ghana.
“When men of God speak, people listen. That is why I believe politicians and the Church must work hand in hand to achieve lasting progress for this country,” he said.
Agyapong has been touring the country, engaging party delegates and grassroots supporters, outlining his vision of leadership anchored on honesty, hard work, and industrial growth.
