President John Dramani Mahama will today, Monday, November 17, 2025, officially swear in Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice, following Parliament’s recent approval of his nomination.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie was nominated by President Mahama on September 23, 2025, who cited his “wealth of experience and long service on the Bench” spanning the High Court, Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court.
He has served as Acting Chief Justice since April 22, 2025, following the suspension and eventual dismissal of Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on November 10, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie pledged open-door, bipartisan leadership and reiterated his commitment to strengthening judicial independence and improving access to justice.
Parliament approved his appointment on November 13, with 163 votes in favour and 69 against, paving the way for today’s swearing-in ceremony.
