The Member of Parliament for Tano South in the Ahafo Region, Dr Gideon Boako, has announced plans to award scholarships to 127 tertiary students as part of his first-year priorities in office.
Speaking in an interview with Sompa FM on the sidelines of a football match competition organised by his outfit for his constituents at Duayaw Nkwanta, Dr Boako said the initiative reflects his broader vision to support not only sports development in the constituency but also education, skills training, and other areas critical to youth development.
“As I’m here with all your support, we’ll not limit things we’re doing to only sports, but we’ll look into education, skills and other things so that we can work on it all,” he said.
Dr Boako encouraged young people in the constituency to take their education seriously, noting that opportunities exist for those who are committed.
He also urged young athletes to balance sports with schooling, stressing that education remains key to long-term success.
“To those who want to go to school, you should be able to focus and do your maximum best. And to those into sports, most are young and have the opportunity to continue their education. We’re here to help and improve the education system,” he added.
According to the MP, the 127 beneficiaries include students from universities, teacher training colleges, and nursing training colleges who successfully applied for financial support under the scholarship scheme.
Ending, Dr. Boako revealed that he is scheduled to meet all selected students on Monday at Tanoso, where he will personally present them with cheques to cover their school fees.
“God willing, coming Monday, I will be meeting all the 127 students in Tanoso and then I’ll present them with a cheque to go and pay their school fees,” Dr Boako said.
