President John Dramani Mahama has used a national thanksgiving service to rally Ghanaians around a renewed commitment to unity, ethical leadership and shared responsibility, as his administration pursues what he described as the difficult but necessary work of “resetting, rebuilding and renewing” the nation.
Addressing the congregation at the intentionally non-denominational event, President Mahama said the service was designed to rise above religious doctrine and reflect values that bind Ghanaians together — faith in the future, respect for human dignity and a collective duty to care for one another.
“Whatever name we give to our divine belief, we recognize that no government succeeds through human efforts alone,” the President said, stressing that humility before a higher purpose is essential to responsible leadership.
He noted that wisdom, strength and guidance are not automatic and must be sought with humility, particularly in times of national challenge.
Reflecting on the past year, President Mahama acknowledged that his government had taken difficult decisions and embarked on tough reforms, some of whose benefits may not yet be visible.
He said the administration has focused on economic stabilization, institutional reform, social protection and restoring confidence both domestically and internationally.
While admitting that the work is far from complete, the President urged Ghanaians to look beyond statistics and charts when measuring progress.
“Progress is also measured by hope that is restored, trust that is rebuilt and the right direction that is regained,” he said.
The thanksgiving, he added, must go hand in hand with recommitment. President Mahama pledged renewed dedication to ethical leadership, service above self and governance anchored in integrity, competence and compassion.
He also emphasized the need to listen to vulnerable groups, young people and those who feel excluded from national decision-making.
Concluding, the President called for national unity, noting that Ghana’s enduring strength lies in its ability to rise above division and work together for the common good.
