The campaign team of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has rejected allegations made by New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, describing them as false and calling for an immediate apology.
In a statement issued on 20 January 2026, the campaign said it had taken note of a circulating video in which Agyapong allegedly accused Dr. Bawumia of making comments about the health of the late Professor Albert Adu Boahen and suggesting that Prof. Boahen was discouraged from contesting the 1996 NPP presidential primaries.
The campaign categorically denied the claims, stating that Dr. Bawumia has never made such remarks.
“For absolute clarity, Dr. Bawumia has never made the statements that have been attributed to him,” the statement said.
The campaign further challenged Agyapong to provide audio or video evidence if he stands by the allegations, warning that wrongful attributions risk misleading the public and deepening tensions within the party.
It stressed that accuracy and responsible communication are essential, particularly within political discourse.
The statement also criticised what it described as the use of personal insults, including claims that Dr. Bawumia is dishonest or unfit for leadership. The campaign urged Agyapong to withdraw the comments and offer an apology.
According to the statement, Dr. Bawumia believes that leadership must be exercised with truthfulness, decorum and restraint, adding that political disagreements should be expressed without personal attacks.
