Mr Collins Kwame Baffoe, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the government to investigate, fish out and prosecute public institutions, responsible for protecting the Sunyani Airport lands.
Describing the level of encroachment at Airport as unacceptable, Mr Baffoe, popularly known as ‘Chairman Abronye’ attributed the level of encroachment at the enclave to the negligence of the Town and Country Planning Department.
The government has completed works on the first phase of the rehabilitation and expansion of the Sunyani Airport, and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is expected to commission the facility to pave the way for domestic flight operation to begin.
Speaking in an interview with Sompa FM in Sunyani, Mr Baffoe said the second phase of the project was expected to begin early next year, but added no compensation would be paid to encroachers, and advised estate developers and potential land buyers to be cautious when buying land within the airport enclave.
He expressed joy about the level of work done at the airport so far, and hoped that flight operations would resume soon to open up the Bono region and spur rapid economic growth and development.
Touching on Election 2024, Mr Baffoe said the NPP in Bono was working tirelessly to ensure that the party re-capture all the five parliamentary seats it lost to the NDC in the Election 2020.
He emphasized the regional executives were poised to ensure that good and marketable parliamentary candidates were elected to lead the party in the various constituencies to enhance the political fortunes of the NPP.
Mr Baffoe promised the new executives would intensify the electioneering and sell the achievements of the government to the masses to make the NPP more attractive and the government popular in the eyes of Ghanaians.
