Tonnes of fresh tomatoes are currently going waste at Tuobodom in the Bono East Region as Farmers are not getting Buyers therefore calling on Government to come to their aid.
Speaking to the media who visited the Tuobodom farmyard enclave, hundreds of Farmers who were stranded at the roadside expecting buyers shared vary views on why their products are going waste, Mr. Martin Kwabena Agyei, the current Chief Farmer of Techiman North District said it is very sad that their labour and investments in the farm throughout the year is going to be in vain.
He called on the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to institute measures to do away with the constant and annual wastage in food production as this phenomenon will discourage farmers and may result to food shortage or hunger in the near future.
Meanwhile, some disgruntled Farmers who spoke to Peace News said they took loans from Banks and struggled a lot in the bush and if their tomatoes go perishing without Buyers it will negatively affect their livelihoods.
