The 2024 vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has urged members to confront the reality of their electoral defeat and work to rebuild public trust ahead of future polls.
Speaking at a meeting with constituency vice chairpersons, secretaries, research and communication officers, treasurers, and financial controllers, in Kumasi Dr. Opoku Prempeh (aka Napo) said the party must reflect and reconnect with the electorate after what he described as a clear loss at the polls.
“I spoke a simple but indisputable truth — we lost the election. The country wanted relief, results, and renewal, and we heard that message loud and clear,” he said in a social media post.
He said the NPP’s path to political renewal depended on restoring confidence among Ghanaians who had grown disillusioned with governance.
“We cannot simply ask for power again; we must first restore the trust Ghanaians once placed in us. Only then will we earn their mandate once more,” he added.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh, who served as Energy Minister in the previous administration, urged party executives to view the setback as a moment for introspection rather than despair.
The Ashanti Region, long considered the NPP’s electoral stronghold, has been a focal point of post-election reflection within the party as it reassesses its performance and grassroots engagement strategies.
