Second Deputy Minority Chief Whip who doubled as Member of Parliament (MP) for Weija Gbawe Constituency, Jerry Ahmed Shaib Esq has urged government and that of Energy Ministry to keep light on during Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE) which starts on Monday.

According to the legislature, “it is going to be unbearable for our young candidates to face Dumsor during the exam period since they will need light to learn throughout the exams period”. He stated.

He revealed the above information during distribution of over 3000 pair of sandals to students at his constituents named "MPs sandals Project” at Weija Cluster of Schools Astro Turf.

He added that, the sandals were manufactured at his constituents with the aim to create jobs for the youth at Weija Gbawe Constituency.

Hon. Jerry Ahmed wished all BECE candidates well and pray for a successful exams for all candidates at Weija Gbawe and across the country.

The 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is scheduled to take place from Monday, May 4th to Monday, May 11, 2026 as over 600,000 candidates are expected to sit for the exam.

Oforikrom Member of Parliament (MP) Michael Akwasi Aidoo who accompanied Jerry Ahmed praised his colleague for such an exercise even though they are in opposition.

He said though parents have done a lot for their wards but the MP have seen the need to support their wards with sandals as well to ensure their wellbeing.
