Ghana defender Gideon Mensah has returned to his parent club RB Salzburg in Austria, according to Ghanasoccernet.com.
Bordeaux have failed to exercise their option for a permanent deal following their relegation from Ligue 1.
When Mensah joined Bordeaux on loan for the 2021-22 season, the French club and Salzburg agreed to that option.
Bordeaux wanted to exercise the buy option but were unable to reach an agreement with Salzburg.
As a result, the versatile defender has rejoined Salzburg, where he has a contract until 2024.
The 23-year-old could be loaned out to another top-flight club to keep him active before the 2022 FIFA World Cup in November.
Mensah played 23 matches and contributed two assists but it wasn't enough Bordeaux finished bottom.
He has been a Salzburg player since 2019, after joining them from Liefering in Austria. However, he has spent the last three seasons on loan.Mensah first went on loan to Belgian side Zulte Waregem, then moved to Vitória S.C. in Portugal before joining Bordeaux in France.
