The communications and brands manager for Asante Kotoko David Obeng Nyarko, has underscore their success on their success on the just ended Ghana Premier league to hard work and bold decision by the C.E.O Nana Yaw Amponsah.
The outspoken p.r.o explained how difficult it was for management led by the C.E.O to take a hard but bold decision in order for the team to gel.
“Every first season for any management is adaptation period, even with that we manage the second position in the league. At a point, we had to make a very tough decision, we had to change the technical head irrespective of the stiffer opposition from other management, we needed a technical team that suits and understand our philosophy so we realized Prosper Ogum was the right candidate so we had to sacrifice Barreto in order to achieve the results”, He said.
He explained Ogum’s ideologies concise with theirs. “Last season, the best team in the premier league was Wafa led by Prosper Ogum, he holds PHD in PE education and a psychologist, he masterminded Wafa’s success in the league, which was the best ever in their history, so we realize he was the best and of course, you all can attest to that, for example, his first premier league was against Dreams FC and on the 85th minutes, we were down by a goal but we came back to beat them 3-1 he reiterated.
Kotoko Transfer
On transfer of players this season, he said its bound to happen because that’s where the team generates income. He explained. “When we came in, we brought in Fabio Gama, Mbella, Mfege and other equally quality players who were not even known and offloaded about 16 senior team players who have established themselves as at the time, that was one hard decision, so talking about transfers, that’s how team generate resources so definitely it will happen but replacing them with equally good players is another thing.
Kotoko To Africa
Kotoko is been run like Sompa Tv, I mean as a cooperate institution, if you don’t get the needed resources to finance and regain the lost profits, you will definitely run at a lost, last year, a chatted flight cost us 120,000 dollars, and that was the cheapest so going to Africa, you need to explore all avenues to finance it but hopefully we are going and we will make Ghana proud.
On Players Injuries
This season, we had 5 top players going under the knife, you will recall Fabio Gama was one, at a point, Mbella too and others but due to the quality of the team, it didn’t reflect.
On Pre-Season.
What I can say is, last year’s pre-season was the key to our success, we had it outside Ghana, as I speak, there are plans for that, I can’t say where it will be though.
The brand manager had extensive discussions with Omanhene on Sompa Tv and call on supporters to rally behind the team and support them the best way they can.
