Renovation works on the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital have begun to enable the facility to provide a comfortable and safe healing environment. The hospital is currently ‘sick’ and saddled with leakage, cracked walls, exposed wires, and broken windows, among others.
Out of the 10 million-dollar target to heal Komfo Anokye, hospital management says it has received more than 50 percent of the money, hence the need to start work with the hope of completing it in 2024.“The good news is that since the launch of the Heal Komfo Anokye project, the public response has been so encouraging that work on the project has commenced with the beginning of the repair of the roof of the blocks, which has been leaking for years.
Two months after the launch of the fund-raising campaign by Asantehene, we are about 60 percent through with our $10m target in terms of pledges and cash donations.
“My major appeal remains that fixing the sorry state of the blocks is going to require the contributions of all philanthropic individuals and entities in the country and beyond. With no major repairs since their construction in 1954, facilities in the old GEE blocks have suffered massive deterioration and are no longer fit for the delivery of contemporary specialist inpatient services.
We are, therefore, urging those who are yet to respond to the appeal of Asantehene to do so in the coming weeks so that the project can be successfully executed in time for the good of the country”, said the Chief Executive Officer of KATH, Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah at the hospital’s 2023 Thanksgiving Service and workers’ award.
The renovation works is expected to give a major facelift to the second-largest teaching hospital in Ghana when completed in 2024.
Managing Director for Behold Thy Mothers Foundation, Mr. Benjamin Ussher Blay has propelled individuals within the country to kill their conceived mentality of aged women being witches.
According to him, this mindset has caused a host of people to ignore in caring less of the well-being of their mothers.
He shared frustration on the fact that mothers are often tagged witches the moment they start to grow grey hair and exhibit menopausal symptoms unlike fathers who virtually go through similar state of growth.
Benjamin Ussher Blay relayed this at a Christmas Party organized in Cape Coast for aged Roman Catholic mothers of 70years and above by Rev. Father David Obeng Piantsil, the former Parish Priest of St. Edwards Parish at Jukwa and the former Director for Jukwa-Krobo Grotto in the Central Region.
These aged mothers at the party were served the ditch of their life and offered a bag of rice each, together with a t-shirt as the oldest amongst them went home with a cloth as well.
The Managing Director of Behold Thy Mothers Foundation having conscientized the need for children to take proper care of their aged mothers, encouraged individuals to have their mothers spend some quality time with them at their homes during this festive season to foster happiness and psychology health in them during this special occasion.
Dr. Eric Arkoh-Ben, a Senior Technical Adviser for the National Development Planning Commission bemoaned the fact that women (mothers) are occasionally celebrated predominantly with one song, being 'Sweet Mother' which was composed by Cameroonian-Nigerian highlife musician Prince Nico Mbarga.
He stressed that the hour has come for Ghanaian artistes to compose more songs to have mothers in the country well celebrated for their immense sacrifices showcased over the years.
Some aged mothers who partook in the party equally expressed their heartfelt excitement and gratitude to Rev. Father David Obeng Piantsil through whom the annually held party was organized.

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has criticized former President John Dramani Mahama’s recent allegations of widespread cheating among the recent West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) graduates.
In a live video shared on social media, Abronye asserted that Mahama’s claims were unfounded, especially in the context of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy introduced by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. According to him, the implementation of the policy has freed students from the financial burden of school fees and other expenses, allowing them to concentrate better on their studies.
“John Mahama is saying that the children who just completed their WASSCE of which their result was over 70% pass, cheated. You see John Mahama if you don’t quarantine him there would be a problem in this country. “John Mahama has to know that in those days when children were been sacked from schools, there was no concentration in the classroom because they had divided attention and there was no freedom of mind, so how would they pass their exams?” Abronye DC said. He went on to emphasize the positive impact of the Free SHS policy, stating, “But this is the case whereby the children go to school every morning with a special breakfast and get three meals a day, which is quality education. So, they have that free mind to learn,” he added.
“The same free SHS students who passed and had a scholarship to outside the country are some of the best students there, like the Keta School contestant Francisca, go and have a look at her results if she cheated. “All the Ghanaian students who had the opportunity to go abroad are all excelling there, do they also engage in cheating, this clearly shows that the person who is coming 2025 is not fit,” he added.
Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has challenged the authenticity of the recent results for the West Africa Senior Schools Certificate Examination (WASSCE). According to him, some invigilators relax on the job as teachers are found aiding students in answering questions. This comes after the Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum announced that this year's results is the best since 2015.
“In many places, they let the children cheat. You go to places and the teachers are conniving with the students to cheat. The effect will be seen later,” Mr. Mahama said. The former President, who is on the "Building Ghana Tour", believes the development will have dire consequences on the country's educational system in future.
“You certify these children saying they are of this standard either the BECE or SSCE, and that child will use that certificate, go abroad to a school and they will find out that your qualification is not up to the standard you say it is”.
Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kurt Okraku underscores the importance of rallying behind the Black Stars during challenging times, emphasising that this support is especially crucial ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Ivory Coast.
Addressing concerns over the team's recent inconsistent results, which included a 1-0 victory over Madagascar secured in the 95th minute by Inaki Williams and a subsequent 1-0 loss to Comoros, Okraku urges unwavering national support.
"Let us get behind the squad to deliver. All of us here have opinions on who must represent our country," he states, acknowledging the discussions surrounding player choices.
"Whether the player is your friend, brother, or uncle, all of us here and beyond the confines of this premises have opinions. But at the end, Ghana decided on our own to give that mantle to Chris Hughton and the rest of the technical team, and that is why they are here."
"My plea to all of us is that once the squad is announced, the entire nation must get behind the squad. Even if I have to kneel down and beg the entire country, I will do so," he passionately asserts. "We have one senior men national team, and this senior men national team is called the Black Stars. Once the men for the job are announced, they are our warriors."
President Simeon-Okraku urges Ghanaians to unite and throw their support behind the selected squad heading to Cote D’Ivoire for the Africa Cup of Nations. "It is the only way the boys will feel the adrenaline levels of our countrymen and women. This is the only way they will then be very focused on delivering that target of envy."
Acknowledging the team's fluctuating performances, he states, "We all know that the performances of our dear team have not been too stable, but this is the moment that the boys need our undiluted support. When the times are very difficult, when the times are very unstable, those are the times that they need your support, my support, and the support of the entire country."
Ghana, with 24 appearances in Africa’s flagship competition, will face Cape Verde, record holders Egypt, and Mozambique in the Group stage of the tournament scheduled for Cote D'Ivoire from Saturday, January 13, to Sunday, February 11, 2024.

Head pastor of Shining Grace Chapel international Prophet Isaac Appiah aka Amansie nsoromma has urged his fellow Men of to attach wisdom to the prophecies they claim God would give them on the 31st night of the December, 2023. According to him, the fact that you have been given the word to proclaim as far as the prophecy is concerned does not mean you have to go about it anyhow but devise means to communicate in a very wise way.
The Ghana police Service yesterday issued a statement to remind men of God in the country of the prophecies ahead of the 2023 31st December cross over services. The statement further said, “We urge the general public, especially faith-based groups and individuals to continue to be patriotic and abide by the law, to ensure that the prevailing state of law, order and security in our beloved country is maintained. The Police will like to remind the public that while we have the right to practice our faith and freedom of speech as guaranteed by our constitution and democratic values, we want to reiterate that the enjoyment of these rights are subject to respect for the rights and freedoms of others and for the public interest.
“As we have come to consider December 27th as Prophecy Communication Compliance Day, the Ghana Police Service is once again urging religious communities to practice their faith within the legal framework. In the spirit of the season, we wish everyone Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year,” the statement said. Following this directive which was first issued in 2021, the prophets were unable to deliver their prophecies in the manner that they had earlier been doing.
But speaking to SOMPA NEWS, the leader of Shining Grace Chapel international Prophet Isaac Appiah aka Amansie Nsoromma insisted that he would still prophecy on the 31st night according to the direction of the spirits but would use prophetic terms like idioms, symbols and other jargons in order not to go extremely blatant.
