Dr. Anastasia Nana Ama Kumi-Korsah, a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and aspiring parliamentary candidate for the Cape Coast North Constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has rejected suggestions that the party has become unattractive to Ghanaians.
Dr. Kumi-Korsah, who has expressed her intention to contest the Cape Coast North parliamentary seat, maintains that the party still possesses significant political goodwill and can reconnect with voters through effective engagement, credible leadership and a renewed commitment to addressing the concerns of ordinary Ghanaians.
Responding to assertions that the NPP's recent political fortunes indicate growing disaffection among Ghanaians in an interaction with *Sompa TV's Eric Annan*, Dr. Kumi-Korsah argued that electoral setbacks should not automatically be interpreted as a permanent rejection of the party.
Rather, she believes such developments should serve as an opportunity for reflection, internal reorganisation and renewed engagement with the electorate.
Dr. Kumi-Korsah's position suggests that the NPP's response to claims of declining popularity should not be defensive but should focus on rebuilding relationships with voters.
This she narrated could involve greater grassroots engagement, listening tours, community meetings and sustained interaction with constituents between election cycles.
The UCC lecturer opined that the political future of the NPP will ultimately depend on how effectively the party responds to the concerns raised by voters and whether it can convince Ghanaians that it has learnt from its previous challenges.
For Dr. Kumi-Korsah, the party's setbacks should therefore be viewed as a call to renewal rather than evidence that it has permanently lost its appeal.
